The Yoga Space Spring Update

Dear Yoga Space students!
I just wanted to wish you a very happy Spring, and let you know about a few changes in our studio schedule. I also want to encourage you to get back on your yoga mat if it has been a while. The rainy weather and extended Winter has got some of us feeling down and stuck at home. You're not alone, so let's support each other in getting back to class and renew our commitment to the practice. Spring is the perfect time to practice yoga. It is a time to cleanse out the old, open to new possibilities, and renew intentions! Spring cleaning for the body and mind!!
Whether or not it has been a while, I hope you will join me to celebrate the last time I teach Saturday Beginning yoga before I hand it over to the wonderful and extremely talented and sweet teacher Emily Morich! This Saturday, March 28th, will be the last time I teach this class. Emily will take over the class officially the first week of April. If you are out of practice, this is a good class to get back at it. And this is one of my oldest classes, so I hope some of you long-time Saturday 12:30 students I haven't seen for a while will come join me.
Because of this change, I have decided to make my Saturday 10:45am class an "All-Levels Vinyasa" practice that will be accessible to all. For the Intermediate and Advanced students that have been coming to 10:45am, the class will now be easier, but you can still step things up as you feel. And do know that Thursday nights at 5:45pm is now the only Intermediate/ Advanced practice at the studio, so join us if you want a challenge and feel like working on your inversions and backbends and all those playful arm balances.
I feel that the studio has grown into a very special place. Our staff is extremely talented, knowledgeable, and caring, and the energy at our Stark Street studio has surely become really special. We continue to grow through your support and referrals. Thanks so much for supporting us and our yoga community!

Love in Action: Speak up!

It's been awhile since I've sent an activism email out but this seems urgent to me so I am passing it onto you.
H.R. 875 Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009, if passed, will criminalize organic farms, force ORGANIC farms to use pesticides and force us to use them in our own back yards. No surprise here as MONSANTO is one of the backers of this bill which is the world's largest herbicide and pesticide company and the leading producer of Genetically Engineered seeds which are now causing unexpected diseases in humans and evil on many other levels (watch Future of Food).
There is an enormous rush to get this into law within the next 2 weeks before people realize what's happening. This Bill will require organic farms to use specific fertilizers and poisonous insect sprays dictated to "make sure there is no danger to the public food supply". There are 40 co-sponsors to the bill and 6 of the 40 are from CA!

1. Contact your members at 202-224-3121 and ask them to oppose HR 875 and S 425.
*Ask them if they have personally read the legislation and what their position is.
*If they have not read the legislation, ask them to read it and politely let them know that just because other representatives are not reading the legislation and voting on it does not mean they can do the same.
2. Find out who sits on your state agricultural and farming committee and contact them with your concerns. In CA: www.assembly.ca.gov/acs/ne

4. Tell everyone you know about this, whether they are organic eaters or not so that people are informed and can choose to act if they feel so called.

As a concerned citizen, and a consumer of organic produce, I feel compelled to write to you regarding bill H.R. 875: Food Safety Modernization Act of 2009 – which requires the use of pesticides on all produce. While I applaud your concern for food safety, and the attempt to create traceability for food borne illnesses, I urge you strike down this bill! Based on your generally democratic voting record, I was shocked to see your name on the list of co-sponsors of this bill.
Consider the impact that this bill may have on small scale farms and Certified Organic growers who sell their products directly to the public. No one should be forced to use dangerous pesticides in the name of “prevention of a health hazard” for any reason. In fact, these pesticides are cancerous to human and animal health. Nor should the government be allowed to dictate what is used on private property in the name of “preventing a health hazard.”
It should be illegal in fact, for any corporation such as Monsanto, to have any influence on the wording of a bill that has direct ties to its own commercial interests. It should also be illegal for anyone to craft or co-sponsor a bill that has any familial or professional ties to a corporation that would receive the financial benefit of a piece of legislation.
Please take care to include provisions that will support and represent the unique opportunity for food safety that our local food economies represent in this country. Our laws must be crafted to truly support individual wellness, not suppress it. Our nation would be well served to follow the policy of the European Union, and copy the laws they have in place that prevent harmful chemicals from infesting the food supply.
I also vigorously urge Congress to require labeling on all genetically modified food items, so that we may be able to record their potential health consequences on the population. (under Section 201, b). The safety of our food supply in this area is truly hidden from the public in order to support the financial interests of a handful of companies. This MUST stop.
Please remember that you and your loved ones will also consume this very same food. Are you willing to put your health and that of your family and loved ones at risk because you were unwilling to legislate in favor of the Truth?
